The 705 is sold on CRC with "basemaps" whatever those are. Do you have to spend extra over there to get UK maps or are they included? If so why do we have to pay R999 for SA maps?

The 705 with heart rate is 3785.13 + 14% VAT + R25 clearing = R4340. Even with an extra R999 for maps that is a lot cheaper.

The 305 with heart rate is only 2752.79 and you don't need maps. Of course you will have to tack on some tires or something to get over R3175 for free shipping :)

As far as I know, basemap is a basic map of the world with no streetmaps. I reckon the one on CRC includes no streetmaps, UK or elsewhere.

Also not 100% convinced there is no import duty. I once ordered a Polar HRM from the US and got hit hard by SARS (admittedly it may have been one official looking to supplement his monthly income at the time).

When enquiring on the price just make sure whether

it comes with the candence sensor or not.

Aaah, I see the problem. I'm basiing my price on Cad + HR, davidtinker's basing his on HR only. In that case, the EasyGIS one costs R5,299 (they also have one without maps for R4,599).

If you do a search for CRC + Import (a much discussed topic here), you'll see that the effective VAT rate charged works out at 15.4% rather than 14%. You also need to account for the fact that CRC quotes direct exchange rates, while your bank will charge a rate 2.75% higher if you pay by card.

If you redo the maths, CRC's price is within 1% of EasyGIS's for HR without maps and is about 5% higher when you include maps.

Sorry, forgot about Basemaps. See below for comparison. I believe you would also have to pay extra to get UK/Europe maps.

The streetmaps also have coverage of the rest of Southern Africa outside of ZA.
