Awesome little article from VeloNews

But one of the coolest things I?m most excited about is an idea I

followed up on during my break. The story goes, I was doing an

opening-up work out for an upcoming 'cross weekend last November: five

minute efforts at 400 watts and I noticed this young dude with a cut

off t-shirt, Vans sneakers, Camelbak and a 1980?s Motobecane with down

tube shifters. I rode by and said ?yoooo?, focusing on the task I had

in front of me. After five minutes I glanced back and I hadn?t lost my

man with the Motobecane. ?WOAAAH. REALLY? Could that have just

happened?? I thought to myself,"I need to get this guy's info because

he?s talented ? he just kept up with me on a 30-pound Motobecane and

Vans sneakers.

...... and untrained he puts out well over 5 watts per kilo and he?s won every

race he?s entered this year. Bam! So imagine this tiny guy who can puts

out 350 watts at about 130 pounds. Untrained. On a 30-pound Motobecane

and Vans sneakers.

I hate people that has got natural talent. I use to race slot cars with a guy that did the Argus in a sub 3 on his first try after only 7 months of training. The same guy came 10th at the worlds RC racing in Japan on his first try. He got his solo flying go ahead with RC planes after 4 weeks and became an instructor after 8 weeks.

Its not just freaky. Its bloody unfair, but hey, life is unfair. Its that ability versus talent thing again. Good on Mr. Motobecane. I hope he realises he has talent and makes the most of it because I think people like that have a moral obligation to use it.

I thought this thread was about Taylor Phinney.  Firstly he goes and wins the genetic lottery (both his parents are US Olympians).

Then this weekend he goes and becomes the first American tro win the Junior Paris-Roubaix (for under-23's) against the best Europe can throw at him and he is a trackie.  The scary thing is he is 18.  Yes, digest that: 18!!!!!!!!!!

I am jealous!

Check out Aaron Gwin's (Yeti DH racer) story:

"Aaron Gwin has been a big surprise to many people in the mountain bike world.  Literally

coming out of no where, Gwin has captured the interest of riders, industry,

& media throughout the nation, if not the entire mtb world.  Gwin

placed 10th at his first two international races (Sea Otter Classic & MSA

World Cup) against the fastest World Cup racers around; qualified first, at his

first, national mountain bike race; and bested his World Cup teammates (Justin

Leov & Sam Blenkinsop) at the Snowmass stop of the Mountain States Cup.

Did we mention that this was all within his first 8 months of racing

downhill?  Not just as a professional... but his entire racing

career!"

HAd this in high school. Guys will do winter and summer holiday training. Buy carbon fibre running shoes and gets beaten by jean, sneaker and turned around cap wearing guys by 50m in the 200m sprint.

Freaky! But then you have the likes of Gary Kirsten thats regarded as one of the best international batsmen but never had natural talent like Gibbs - but he worked on his weaknesses and become the best
