Anybody familiar with Avalanche Stratus

Bumped into a reasonable bike - Avalanche Stratus. Sora kit, but I cant say that any of the other bits ring too many bells.

 

Can anybody tell me a bit about this bike. I presume it's very entry level, but it really looks OK to me. Bear in mind that most of my bikes were made before many of the hubbers were born

I would say its a NO NO!!! iv seen a few. they sell them at sportsmans. dont seem to good. its like half a sora groupo and other fonkong parts! an rc2000 or somthing like that is a much better buy.!

if your getting it for R1000 maby?? but otherwize u can pic up other bike for 2K or so that are alot better.

well for that money then its a good deal, you wont find anything beter for that price. even if you dont use the bike the parts are worth more then that.

My cycling partner has one - and seems to keep up with the group just fine on it. The only issue has been spoke tension on his wheels, which he just can't seem to get to settle. It is a basic bike, but it works fine.

 

 

 

It isn't full Sora, just the FD, RD and STI's (and crank, IIRC ??). The rest is Tektro and no-name brand. But it shifts fine and he hasn't complained about the braking.

 

 

 

We saw a new one in a LBS two weeks ago for R6k. It is certainly not worth that, but just goes to show what's happened with the prices of bikes....

 

 

 

For under 1k, grab it. Don't pass go.

Thanks - yes - I was thinking of using the parts and flogging the frame to an unsuspecting hubber for R1k
