Remembering pesky spoke lengh formulas

How do you remember the formula for calculating a spoke's lengh?

 

This NY mechanic gave up on memory and wrote it down instead.

A mirror image would have been better. Then he would also have spotted that giant black booger hanging from his nose.

 

Or maybe he just got tired of everyone else asking him and he just flashes an arm when they ask.
