In preparation (last minute) for the Wicklow 200 next weekend, we used the long weekend here to do the "Beara way", also known as the "Ring of Beara".

If you plan to cycle in Ireland - this would be it. (currently, will update as I get more educated Embarrassed)

We used Glengariff as base camp and played with combinations of the mountain/coastal routes for 3 days.

Instead of attempting to describe my weekend euphoria/afterglow, let me post pics:

Below, the fuchsia flower sign is the "Ring of Beara" (http://www.bearatourism.com/cycleroute.html) that we did.

It form part of the "Beara-Breifne Way", the knight sign (http://www.beara-breifne.ie/cycling.php)

Almost no traffic:

Not a flat coastal route: Wink

Healy Pass (freaky number of switchbacks - give it a constant gradient):

Dursey Island:

Swim along the way, wetsuite recommended, but gets better the more you do it: Big%20smile

Hi Gerald

Wild guess - but I think we met. At the Hammond Memorial Races, Ballyboughal. I was marshaling an intersection and you came from the vets race to pick up your son (Joshua?)

Will look out for you next week. White/Red Orbea. Will be huffing and puffing in Orwell wheeler kit (look like rain Sunday and only warm kit I have)
