A friend of mine is a runner - used to do Comrades & is getting back into his game. He wants to know if anyone here is familiart with the Garmin Forerunner range of GPS units -- some runners use it he believes etc..

He wants it to record distance , time , route etc ...

Any help appreciated !!! Big%20smile

Any Garmin runing watch (Forerunner) will record time/distance/route.

The newer ones ( 305 and 405 ) will allow you to save and use courses ( where you can follow and race previously saved routes)

The 405 is the newest and most compact, but the older 305 is able to show more information on the screen, including the trail you've just run, and course/route you are following.

Hi I started with the 301 and used it for over a year apart from it been a bit bulky it is really easy to use switching between bike and run mode. Also nicely graphs your progress and maps out the rotes you have trained on. Because of the GPS you know within a few meters how far you have run and you also get the elevation of your training, nice to have. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I have upgraded to the 405, battery life is only about 9 hours but apart from that great, finds satellites quickly and much better looking. Software similar just slightly upgraded and connects wirelessly to your PC.

I have never had a Polar so cant compare but believe in the GPS product

If you need to know anything else let me know

You can also get a cadence sensor for the 405 or an additional R500 to R600, nice to have J<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I have just got the 305 (heard & read plenty reports from people who had a 305, upgraded to a 405, and have reverted to the 305)

Bought it online at amazon in the uk for GBP 130 (R3200 -R 3500) at sportmas warehouse
