I just insalled new brakes on my road bike and thought I would change the cables and housings at the same time. The front brake works 100% but the rear does not release all the way. It opens about halfway back. The brakes are new and works 100%. When I wiggle the cables it opens. Not sure what the problem is, but think it may be that I cut the housings too long or too short. The cable runs bare through the top tube (BMC Frame), and I am not sure if the exit and entry point is causing too much friction. I have also noticed that when I take the bartape off, it releases fine - maybe I am not routing the cable properly along the bar and into the top tube.

Can anyone help please? Want to get this right myself and dont want to take it to my lbs if I dont have too. I am sure there is a simple solution to this.

If the problem sorts itself out when you take the bar tape off, then it's probably that piece of housing causing the issue. I would check the length of the new piece against the old one, then check for any burrs in the ends of the outer caused by cutting and clean them up. Next would be cable routing - check that the ends are seated properly in the stops on the shifters and frame.

One of these should work. If not, ask JB... as hard as I try I still don't know everything.
