DHK: I bet you didnt set your rear shock up. Spring's are more linear than air, so the ride should be feel smoother, whereas at the bottom of an air shock's stroke, it tends to firm up in a hurry, hence the earlier 'negative' about air shocks being they blow thru their strokes in a hurry. Springs are linear all the way down, and since most springs are longer than the total travel, it's linear all the way to bottoming out.

If your shock didnt feel as plush/smooth as the air shock you had, it might be the spring rate was too high for your weight. Might also have been some sticktion with the shock along it's travel. Just guess at the latter though, but i bet you didnt determine the best spring rate for your weight and riding style. Fox shocks has a nice spring rate calculate for their shocks, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's near enough approximation for all makes of coil shock as a spring is a spring is a spring.
