Don't know if anyone's tried this:

My wife has a XS (14") mtb but she still has no standover clearance (yes, she is tiny).

So I originally considered a 24" wheel bike, but they never come with any decent forks.

What I am thinking of now is to get 24" wheels and put them on the frame, it has disc brakes so diameter wise there should be no problem.

If there is a differenc in hub length I could probably lace a 24" rim onto a standard hub ?

Has anyone done something like this before ?

Its not impossible to do this, however all the steering geometries will be thrown out the window, as the steering angle will intersect the ground at a different point thus making the steering feel very twitchy. and to do a "46er" is not a good idea at all, the seat angle will be made more relaxed as well as the steering angle "slacker" making the bike very stable at high speed however very unresponsive at slow speed.

Will only work if you have disc brakes,I recently converted my daughters 24" bike to disc brakes used deoere hubs but could not find quality rims had to stick with standard 24" which are not too good for heavy off road use. also be carefull pedals end up closer too ground ,specially if you are riding offroad. good luckTongue

24" bikes normally have a slightly higher BB. You don't want to hit the ground with the pedals during light turns, although with your wifey being tiny you can run short cranks.

Maybe get something with geometry that's similar to jump bikes?

Is it a standard frame? Have you looked at something with a different top tube that gives a lower standover height? Might be easier and more effective than messing round with wheels.
