Chain too long ??

I have a Shimano 105 brand new crank. I recently upgraded my chain to a brand new 10 speed Ultegra chain. I have a 53-39 crank and a 13-25 cassette. When I fitted the chain I found to too long when on the 39-25 gear selection. I think I have a 9 speed instead of a 10 speed ... because it works fine after removing 3 links..

 

I realise I actually have a 9 speed .....

A 10 speed chain is not compatible with a 9 speed cassette.......also the chain length is irrelavent to the drivetrain speed number but has to do with excess slack.
