I rode the 40 km route of the Magoebaskloof Classic yesterday, in the mist, in the rain, and all I can say is: what an amazing ride! I woke up this morning, sore legs and all, still thinking about it.

I don't know, maybe I am biased (I live about 15 km away), but the terrain and scenery has to be experienced to be believed. I can't believe I have never taken part in this race before but that is definitely going to change come November 7.

Hope to see many of you there.

This must be the most beautifull place on earth. Magoeba's.

Any news on the deal's regarding whats happening with the tea plantations?

The tea plantations are finished Slowbee. At the moment they are growing wild.

The story I heard is that tea is not commercially viable in SA and a foreigner was reaping the benefits of the government subsidy on the plantations anyway. So it was bound to fall apart eventually.

Aesthetically it is very sad but the biggest losers here are the thousands of workers who lost their jobs. This has had a disastrous impact on them, their families and our whole community.

Oh well, things move on.

TZ, the deal was that the plantations belonged to a British Consortium, who were leasing the land dirt cheap and taking all the money out the country. During the land claim, they basically left everything as is and laid off the workers. However, as part of that land claim they want to get the plantations off the ground. Its a fantastic opportunity to work with the community to get theat project back up and running.

Thanks for the clarity on that.

Well, I am glad our tax dollars aren't going to Mud Island anymore!

The problem is that nothing is going on there. I drive past every day and the tea is just getting wilder.

It would be great if these initiatives could get underway and actually benefit some of the grass root members of our area but I am afraid a lot of the projects here have gone up in smoke.

Good intentions are what paves the road to hell and there is a LOT of good intent here.

Anyway, are you coming up to ride? It's going to be a great day in the mountain.
