epoh Posted May 21, 2007 Share Barloworld to ride the Tour de France - Wynand de VilliersSource: http://www.cyclingnews.co.za/Pages/Default.asp?More=Barloworld%20to%20ride%20the%20Tour%20de%20France&FeatureID=2415&SectionID=2 Hot on the heels of Robert Hunter?s stunning overall win in the Tourde Picardie stage race in France at the weekend, Barloworld receivedeven better news that they have been included in the Tour de Franceline-up for this year.It?s great news not just for Hunter andhis team, but also for South African cycling with a South Africansponsored team for the first time taking part in cycling?s showcase.The final wild card slots will likely be announced today, but theBarloworld squad received the heads up at the weekend that they canstart preparing for the Tour.Hunter won the first stage of the four-stage Tour de Picardie and successfully defended the yellow jersey throughout the tour.Onthe fourth and last 91.5km stage of the three-day tour, which tookplace on Sunday, the Barloworld pro had his hands full controllingJartazi cyclist Janek Tombak from Estonia. Tombak won the stage, butfell 3 seconds short of Hunter. Italian Alessandro Pronifinished third. Proni attacked Hunter, together with Tombak, on thefinal hill with 3km to go.
