MTB glasses

One word - photochromatic. Shades with interchangeable lenses are totally useless when you are gunning it and enter a tunnel or heavily shaded area. As suggested above the Rydeons looks good.

I dont agree with using photochromatic lenses. It takes far too long for the lense to change from dark to light, especially when riding from open areas into tree clumps/shaded spots. Just plain dangerous and not worth it. And these lenses are far too expensive. Having a pair of sunnies with interchangeable lenses in not an issue, choose what you need and get on with it. Its not that difficult to changes lenses.

for mtb, get a clear lense or a high contrast yellow/persimmon lense, really helps when riding in dappled light or tracks with lots of shadows and sun patches where your eyes have to adjust fast to see obstacles.

what you buy depends on your taste and budget:

You can get clear or yellow safety glasses which are quite stylish at your Mica hardware for R120-160 (Plano) or the Bolle safety glasses being sold here on the hub (google this to see the UK prices) for R250.

BBB comes in at R250+

D'Arcs work well at under R500

Then you can spend a lot on fashion sport glasses from Addidas, Oakley, Rudy Project, Specialised etc.

As for anti-fog, thats all rubbish, if the conditions are cool and moist, the heat generated by your head causes vapour to condensate on the glasses no matter what has been applied to them, in my experience.

(Same applies to high end skiing/snowboarding goggles.)

Also note, that in very muddy races your glasses do help a lot. mud spray etc does end up on the lenses (not in your eyes) and sometimes you just plain cant see anymore (also from condensation). Its fine if you have time to stop and clean them carefully, not good when racing and you cant stop. What usually happens in a race is that the glasses end up in your back cycle shirt pocket, and get scratched badly. lots of mud from your rear wheel gets onto your back, so be aware of this if you are riding with a R2000 pair of Oakleys that you cant see thru.
