Stick it out on platforms till you feel confident enough with your bike handling. If you\re happy go with the very popular Shimano SPD's (540's will do) or go with the new benchmark Look Quartz.

Practice unclipping in your passage at home and make sure the tension is set to your liking before heading out.

The Quartz unclips a LOT easier then Shimano, so great to start on. I went over to Shimano due to the fact that after you are used to cleats, you want something that does not unclip that easy.

The Shimano ones you can set the tention of the spring, thereby setting how easy / difficult it is to unclip, but even on the low setting, the Quartz (which you can not set) unclips easier.

(*Sameless plug* Still have the LOOK's if you interested /*Sameless plug*)
