Now thats the Specialized I know.  If there's a problem they admit it and issue a recall.  How many other brands issue recalls.  Most just keep quiet and hope the problem goes away, others simply blame the rider!  Well done to Specialized for its recall policy and watching out for our safety! geotrails2009-11-20 05:10:07

LOL Now thats funny! Watching out for our safety. More in the line of keeping their asses from being sued. Everytime someone asks about the high prices of bikes they get shown the R&D card. Now with all the R&D we pay for how does something like this slip through?

I am basing my comments on feedback from the Velocast and Fredcast podcasts.  Agreed, product recalls are a requirement of bodies such as the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, but, the podcasters have noted that Specialized in particular has been particularly diligent about recalls.  As for the South African situation.  We obsess more about Competition than about Consumer protection and hence your scepticism!  As for the price of Specialized bikes, well its rather funny that when I buy internationally they are well priced, but, at home prices seem very steep!

And now their road division and pulled out of sponsoring Quickstep. Wonder what it will do to sales.

Mmmm... and the contract with ISD is closing, too. But then they're supplying bikes to Contador and Astana next year. Wonder what that will do to sales........ ? Confused

Yes - interesting point ......mmmm .... me thinks one's bike choice should not be influenced by who is paid to ride what bike, but, to judge the merits of the bike itself.  Therefore, all things considered, I'll just stick with my three Specialized bikes and buy another Stumpy when I can afford it!

Probably because you already own one! and good luck to you. Quite obviously does not bode well for the specialised brand esp in light of pending decisions from my pov. Risk a potentially faulty Epic Comp 9'er (and yes noted - 'they' say the 29'ers are not affected) or go for a Fisher Hifi Pro 29er - stock availability dependant. Advice?

Hey Gareth

Stock Availability might be your decider - you can probably also include a Niner RIP (see pics elsewhere on the hub)
