Advice - Upgrading Kona Howler to triple chainring

Hi

I would like some advice -

I have recently become the owner of a Howler (Kona dual sus)

It is still being shipped to me -

It was built stock as a Single chainring DH Freeride bike...

To convert it to be more XC friendly.....

It has a Aerozine SL triple chainring crank fitted brand new....no shifter or front derailer yet.....

I want to know :

If this is a good conversion...or should I opt for going back to single chainring??

What would my best option be for front derailer???

I am going to use it for trails like Groenkloof... Rietvlei green.... etc

I would like to do odd XC rides...

Any one have any advice?

Seems like a bit of a trend towards 1 x 9 happening. Depends on where you ride you may not need a granny and big ring. Maybe go for a 11 x 34 tooth cassette rather?
