i ride a little on the tar and in your game its all about weight

in the dirt i guess its about just not breaking down and having working arms after a long rocky ride .... weight at your level(MTB) should mean very little for now

a MTB must just work all the time.

Acera / Altus - Bottom of the lot

Alivio

Deore

SLX

Deore XT

XTR - Top of the lot

If I were you, I'd be looking out for full Deore Components, they will last the longest for a relative entry level bike @ around R5-6000+

Good luck with you bike hunting and welcome to the MTB scene.... Thumbs%20Up

You can try Solomons as well. On their website they advertise for example Bianchi's, upgraded to full Deore, 27 Spd for +-R5700. Also a Wheeler with a mixture of Acera & Deore components with the same shock as the Bianchi for R3999.95 (Also 27-speed). When they mix groupsets the rear deraileur will usually be of the better groupset.
