Clip In Pedals Or Normal For XC Races

If you happen to fall with you foot still clipped in, chances are it will clip out during the fall anyway.

Bos makes a good point, however, clipless pedals are more efficient for pedalling, so if you're doing XC, it'll be much easier with clipless than platform. If you want to improve your skills, then use platforms.

Downhillers use platforms because pedalling action is not as important as being able to put their feet out many time in short succession. You can't do that with clipless (unclip, foot out, clip back in, ...)!

There was some ad with Yolande Speedy saying how this product (whatever it was.....some trainer thing I think) and her SPD pedals are 2 things that have helped her improve her riding the most. It could also be all rubbish just to sell stuff....

Guess the idea is to keep your momentum so you dont need to stop or put your feet down.

Not at all. The secret is to get used to unclipping by twisting your ankle out. I can unclip as fast as I can put my foot down.

Remember - twist ankle out as you unclip... It's a habit thing.

Doing the CG / GN Provincial XCO Series - first race is at reitvlei this weekend.
