A chain's lifetime cannot be measured in time units. A chain's life is a function of hygiene and distance pedalled.

It is impossible to say how long a chain will last unless you run it in a bath of filtered oil. Any other way has so many variables that you cannot predict it.

If you replace your chain in time i.e. when it is less than 1% elongated (chains can't stretch), then you'll be able to get about chains per cassette.

I have an extensive article on my website on chains. Go to www.yellowsaddle.co.za, go to Supercycling Articles and look for the chain article. It is long, but comprehensive.
