Polar HRM Warranty

I find it really stupid that you have to send a unit in just to have the battery replaced.  Is it a difficult procedure or do they prefer doing this so they know it's done right and warranty stays in place ?

On my Suunto I could do it myself with a R25 battery thats easily available' date=' just clean and lube the o-ring and put it together nicely and voila !

A overenthusiastic salesman at Bruce's once tried to replace the battery on my Polar S210 unit. The seal is incredibly thin and complex. Once it pops out of its grooved recess it is virtually impossible to get back in. He did get it back after I promised him I will moer him and then let Bruce moer him as well!!!!!!!

I have never opened my S725x. I have the batteries replaced regularly when we are in RSA. I have spare batteries and buttons here if needed.

According to Polar the most damage is not from seal abuse but from people stripping the thread on the unit body. This is for all products. It is a small self tapper that threads into a hole. It can easily happen.

I just recently had a huge fight with them. Gave it in at expo because of some issues. Told me to replace basically everything except the watch. According to them one must buy a new strap once per year. I did not complain and paid what they charged. The next day the thing did not even ick up a HR reading. Had to send it back (own expense). Waited a week and then phoned them. Told me the transponder was faulty now. Kakked in my pants for only picking that up now. Eventually they replaced the transponder free of charge (of which i am very thankful).

Jaco' date=' what belt are you talking of..... the Wearlink Belt with the replaceable battery? Is it only the belt or the thingy that clips onto the belt as well that must be replaced?[/quote']

That would be the belt with the electrodes not the transponder that clicks onto the belt

Ok makes sense Big H' date=' but is there a reason for them designing it like that ?  Seems they could have made it more user friendly ? [/quote']

I suppose it is one of their ways to keep up their good name? ..... by keeping peeps form scratching around inside sensitive electronic goodies and also making sure the seals are replaced and are in place. Play with them, damage them and they will not honour their warranty.... easy and simple. You are warned about this in the manual.

Not for Weight Weenie.......

O ja also rather amke use of a courier. To blame Polar when SAPO lose your thingies in the post is ridiculous. You only have yourself to blame.

I posted this elsewhere.....

I felt the same way about it as you do until the Polar techie explained to me why they prefer to do it. It is a very sensitive instrument and bricklayer hands like mine could damage something if it is not done with the delicacy and care of a brain surgeons hands. My pliers, screwdriver and hammer are not really considered jewelers tools which could result in damage to the altimeter and seals etc.

So I listen to the techies.

By the way, have you ever tried to buy a Polar battery?
