Garmin and total climbing

Does anyone know how you can view your total climbing during a ride on a
garmin forerunner 305 ? I heard that the Edge 705 can do it, but besides that I
only know of some Polar devices that have that option.

I really want to
see my total climbing during a ride, because sometimes I want to ride a certain
total climbing as suppose to time or distance.

Any help
appreciated.

I use a Edge 305 and total ascent can be viewed "live" since the unit is equipped with an altimeter.

 

 

 

According to my knowledge the 305 Forerunner does not have a barometric altimeter hence no altitude read out on the bike; however the software calculates the altitude only once the data is downloaded to your pc by tracking sat position etc.

I have a Forerunner 305, and it does show your current altitude live, BUT I have not been able to make it show total ascent without downloading to pc.

 

If you find out how, please post it.

Ok I got an official answer from Garmin, due to the fact that the device does not have a altimeter(barometric) it can not do it...the software does the calculation after you have downloaded it.
