Reden Posted July 28, 2010 Share Why is the rear wheel lased straight spokes next to the casette and the far side two cross? Most other wheels are laced crossed at the casette and straight far side.
Johan Bornman Posted July 28, 2010 Share Don't expect a deeply technical answer to that question. Most wheel companies do things to differentiate their product in the market, not to make it mechanically better. There are many examples of this including paired spokes or indeed, triplet spokes, radial lacing, Kevlar spokes, aluminium spokes etc. Mechanically it is better to cross-lace it on the cassette side but, by increasing the strength of the tube between the two sets of spokes, you can transfer the torque from the right to the left side of the wheel like Mavic has done. Transferring torque like that is not efficient but owners of those wheels are too busy looking at the nice graphics and different coloured spokes on those wheels to care about mechanical efficiency.
