This is a common problem with steel bikes and alu quill stems. I'm struggling at the moment to get remove a quill stem from a steel frame, it just wont budge.

 

Center taper? or side taper?

What have you tried?

I usually drop the taper out and the bolt and knock it from below.

Others place their faith in caustic soda. (messy though)

Heres the BBB one the part number is BHP 21 and is available in SA if you can't find one let me know and I'll try to get hold of one for you.

 

Its called an Extender (Steerer Tube Adaptor)

You actually need BHP 20 for a 1" steerer. You can get off-the-shelf shims to get a 1 1/8" stem to fit the 1" adapter.

hi everyone

 

need some help and didnt want to start a new thread....

 

i got a giant ocr5 (quite old) with a 1"(25,4mm) steerer tube and was planning on buying this OS stem for sale here

 

will it fit? the few websites i found say its 1 1/8", but the guy selling it says it will fit fine

would i need to get the adapter as mentioned above, how much do they go for? where can i get one in the centurion area?
