Tiny K Posted August 20, 2010 Share Just to add my 2c worth - I had to upgrade my wife's RD the other day from 7 to 8spd..... just couldn't get the gear ratio to work when I put a Suntour Superbe Pro RD with Shimano downtube shifters. It kept skipping a gear somewhere on the casette no matter what I did. Chatted to my cycle buddy MariusL and a guy at Cape Town Cycles and, after much tinkering, came to the conclusion that they are not compatible. Bought a second hand Shimano RD from Cape Town Cycles and it works like a dream. The 7spd RD worked with Shimano friction shifters but not on the upgraded click shifters I put on. It all boiled down to the cage and the distance ratio between the cable stop and the cable clamp. I speak under correction but Shimano has a 1:1.25 ration whilst SRAM and Campy are 1:1 - most likely the problem with the Suntour too. So now my problem is sorted.... well my wife's really. Might have or not been of help, but is the RD compatible to the shifters? (forgive my ignorance if I missed reading it earlier in the thread)
