My Polar S720 has recently developed the annoying habit of intermittently not updating the distance while I'm riding. The speed, HR, etc. still update and display correctly so I have no clue that this is happening until I scrutinize the distance display for a few hundred metres and notice it isn't updating.

The problem comes ang goes during the ride, but it's seriously annoying not knowing the actual distance covered.

Polar have suggested the batteries may need to be replaced, but it sounds like a long shot, so I just wanted to check if anyone out there has a similar problem??

Sounds to me like a potential problem with the speed sensor?

If the oproblem persists - I have spare 725x (just had the battery replaced by Polar last week) which I'm not using. I will let it go for R1200 (No chest strap, using with my other HRM)

I don't see how the speed can display correctly, without updating the distance.

Spin the wheel slowly in a darkish room - if the orange LED does not illuminate when the magnet passes the sensor then the sensor battery needs replacing. It's easy enough to do. IIRC you just need a very skinny screwdriver to disassemble the sensor housing, and take note of the way the sensor PCB fits in the housing.

What have you got to loose? Change the batteries and make sure the space between the magnet and the speed sensor is correct if you did this, and the problem persist send the sensor and the watch to Polar for an inspection.

Cool - thanks guys. Think I'll send the all the bits and pieces through to Polar for a checkup. Will let you know if it solves the problem / not :)

Hey Guys,

Just an update on this - Got my polar back from IHF and they replaced the batteries and provided me with a new strap and transmitter. Took it out for a spin yesterday and it's working hundreds again.

Hope this helps someone in the future :)

Cheers,

Paulo
