Coenie - I don't believe their a problem for PPA event only offering timing to PPA members. PPA / the PPA event organizers pay the timing company to come and do the timing it not for free and it is a benefit to PPA members! CSA does not the timing company for PPA event!

She will write down your number. What she does with it no one knows......

On Monday you will get a letter form an attorney or laywer as we did! and we're not even ppa members!! absolutely ridiculous!

Now in all aspects I am a noob and an amateur. But the way I understand it is as follows:

I buy a racetec chip and do a race.

Whether I am seeded or a member of the PPA, my results will show on racetec's website. It will not show on PPA's website and I will not be seeded, therefore I will have to start at the back of a PPA race with no change of the so very important bunches etc.

So in my opinion, if I want the benefit of seeding I have to join the PPA and If not I start at the back.

Simple......... or do I have a misunderstanding of the whole thing?

I only joined the PPA in June 2010. But before that(3years), my time showed on the racetec website - but not the PPA website. I was not seeded at PPA and I had to start right at the back of races. And that is the reason why I joined the PPA and to get seeded and the discount on the races

Here is the reply I received from Racetec, hence the start of this topic.

Hi Elvin,   Unfortunately we are unable to publish your results as you are not a PPA member, as this race is a PPA event, you are required to be a PPA member if you would like your results to be displayed. Once you have joined PPA, please let us know and we will re-run results to enable you to view this on the website.

You may contact PPA at 021 689 8420 or info@pedalpower.org.za<mailto:info@pedalpower.org.za> or visit their website: www.pedalpower.co.za<http://www.pedalpower.co.za>

No Coenie. I misunderstood the tread. I was not aware of the latest rules of the PPA and racetec - As you could gather from my last post.

At this stage I will reply with a gracious : No Comment :)

COME ON, when Elvin paid his for his temp number surely he deserves to get his time listed? And why is it that it worked liked that years ago

PPA are trying to force people to be members!!!

No, this is the first race in the Western Cape I entered, so I knew squat about PPA.

I saw the EDCC wellington on the Internet, entered online on cyclelab, collected my number the Thursday at cyclelab shop, purchased a timing chip online as well.

Got in the car Sunday and drove to the race, got my chip there, they called the U23 to the start, I went over the matts, and did the race.

Again an excerpt of my correspondence

As the timing of the event is electronic and computer based and the equipment is in place already it really doesn't make sense that it would cost much more to time everyone with a transponder. Surely part of the extra entry fee could cross subsidise your expense. This would add to your membership benefits in two ways, cheaper timing and your members would have a more accurate and realistic view of their achievement.

Whilst you have a flat rate to help manage an event, it is not the true cost of your involvement as all your members ride at a discounted entry fee, a substantial discounted fee!

In fact as an organiser the easiest way to maximise revenue would be to attract as many non members as possible !

Somehow all of this seems convoluted to me and whilst I don't doubt your motives, I'm sure there is a more fair and inclusive way of doing things!

On monday evening there is a meeting for Western Province Cycling (track, road, bmx and mtb). First point on the agenda:

Resolution to formally associate to PPA

So if you still wanted to object to this, make sure that you attend this meeting! When PPA has taken over the WP for good, you will just have to join and get it over with! Sounds almost like communism to me

What really gets to me: cyclists complain all the time but ask them to vote or take a stand and 98% say: "I only want to ride my bike"

unfortunately politics is part of cycling and if we don't take a stand we will never change anything!

Gheezz.. I am a girl . And no comment is difficult.

In my opinion I was happy with the way it used to work.

But I have to agree that the latest way of forcing one to be a PPA member is not on. If I did not join out of my own free will, but was forced to join in such a manner, I would have been just as upset

How about organising a proxy on the hub - I give you my vote

One more observation - Why are PPA events not exclusively for PPA members?

hmm now you have opened a new discussion...because how would they get neww members...PPA is like that software you can download from the web...the "Free download" yes the download is free to use ...well you have to pay.

PAA says; come and ride your bike, start at the back etc...but if you want to see your time you have to join and you can not even join for one day you have to join for a year

Why is it that PPA never comments on this forum? If I had a bussiness / club and was blasted like this I would be here to defend myself....so they don't care?

paarlmtb - to not shut the door on new cyclist - but yes to get all the benefits you need to be a members.

This may be a very bad comparison but here goes:

1. I by an alarm system for my house and it cost say R2000 from Home alarms - lets call this your chip!

2. It has a siren which goes off - lets call this the beep as you pass over the mats

3. Armed response will only come out if I pay a monthly service fee which could be from ADT (R313 montly) and not Home alarms as I linked the alarm to ADT. So lets call these your result and for a PPA event you need to pay PPA membership fee for these result.

As I said it may be a bad example but it is how business works!
