Hi,

I'm looking to buy a new MTB. I've been back and forth the last couple of weeks. Dual-sus vs 26HT vs 29HT... And I think I'm gonna settle for the GIANT XTC 29er 1.

Giant website with specs I'm just not sure about those brakes...? But the rest looks really good to me. Could just upgrade the brake callipers in the future.

Found the 2011 model at my LBS for R16300. Good price?

Are there any owners out there? What are your opinions? Any feedback would be welcome!

Thanks

That is a VERY good price!

I like the tapered headtube and QR15.

If you must, upgrade the wheels and brakes at first and upgrade the other bits as they wear out.

The SLX stuff is great value for money.

Cool thanks!

What is a tapered head tube :P Just when I think know my stuff, I realise I still have a lot to learn! And while I'm on that, what does "w/15QR axle & tapered steerer" of the fork refer to?

the best part of that package is the fork - tapered steerer and 15mm axle

can't go wrong with the frame, gears can be upgraded as they wear out, just the wheels seem a bit heavy......

also look at doing a custom build with a Momsen frame (he says R2750 for the frame!) and add some fast wheels (Stans or AC)and take it form there......

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like it's all positive. Gonna go in tomorrow to get it! ;)

Think I still need a granny for now so I'll stick to the 3x10

Got the bike on Friday, and did the Genadendal MTB Mission on Saturday. Bike was awesome... until I punctured it quite badly, and then broke the chain  But it was mostly my own fault, still getting used to the bike. And I wasn't that prepared with spares etc. for the 29er. Tried to wing it...

What upgrades did you put on the bike? After this weekend, tubeless is quite high on my list! Also, do you know if the stock Giant rims are tubeless ready? Struggling to find some info on the net...
