Hi Hubbers,

I need some advice on heart rate and cadence monitors. I currently have a simple computer that tells me my distance, max speed, min speed and avg and think that it's time to upgrade to a computer that includes cadence and heart rate monitor.

What else is out there besides the Polars and Garmins? Is there anything that one can buy for R1K? I have tried doing some research but don't really know what I should be looking for.

I live in Cape Town so if anyone can give me a great place to go and look at computers that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Polar is the way to go. Go have a look on www.buycycle.co.za. Their prices on Polar is far more cheaper than any shop I know of in SA. Just a pity I already bought mine before I discovered the online shop.

I've got the Polar CS200 with speed and cadence - beautiful computer. Maybe look at that. Its R1600 without cadence or around R2k with cadence but definitely worth it. I just picked up a second hand speed and cadence sensor here so I can easily switch between my mtb and road bike. The computer can be set up for two bikes...

Have a look at Sigma.

Got a Rox 9 a month ago. Has cadence, altitude, temp, graphs on the pc, climbing rate, inclination, hr, etc.

Everything but gps and it cost me about R2k from starbike.com

They have cheaper models with cadence and stuff.

I got a seperate Cadence (Cateye 8) and a Sigma Pc9 HRM - I'm actually happy with the two seperate devices as I can clearly see my HRM, time (I commute to work so important), Cadence & Spd.

The setup cost me R750.

The only way I can improve on what I got is to spend in the > R2K range it seems.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will take a look at all the options. Scotty, do you know any LBS that stock the Delhi blackburn?

Bought a new Polar CS200 from Chain Reaction Cycles online. With cadence and HR monitor for +/- R 1,200 with VAT.

Great computer and value, only thing is that if you want alititude and graphs of your ride you need to go for the CS400.

CS200 is compatible with polarpersonaltrainer.com so you can upload your rides and it keeps a diary etc for you. If you want you can also link via this site to discovery and earn vitality points for your rides like for gym sessions.

As for what you described and your budget - I would also go for Blackburn Delphi 5 (had one of these years ago, before getting GPS's and I was very happy with it!)

Olympic Cycles or CWC (use to have them dont know if they still do)
