howzit getns.

Just some advice. I popped a foldable Mountain king on my ful sus bike on the front wheel and running it tubeless. Sits nicely. Happy with that. The question I do have is this: it is a 2.2 and it looks pretty narrow from above when I ride compared to the rocket rons that was on te bike.

So the question is wether its good to run a 2.2 in front. Please dont be sarcstic as I know it comes down to personal taste. Give me your opinion if youd be so kind.

One thing I must say is tht I ride in stellenbosch and often the surface is loose on hard (rocky).

The mountain kngs do have a narrow profile you are quite right, not sure about rocket ron's but compared to something like geax yes even though they say 2.2 its more like a 2.1 My conti race king at the back is also 2.2 and looks to have much more volume.

That said so far so good on the narrow 2.2 and it does slice through loose sand and mud but when this one wears out I am definitly getting a wider profile conti.

BTW the 2011 range looks much better, reinforced directional knobs instead of the current angular flimsy knobblies.

Continental have taken elements of their fantastic Trail King mountain bike tyre (formerly known as theRubber Queen) and injected them into the wholly revamped Mountain King for 2011.

The previous version's predictable-handling but flex-prone triangular knobs have been swapped for a more conventional block pattern. Two rows of alternating four- and six-sided knobs run down the centre, while the burly shoulder is expected to provide surer grip at more aggressive cornering angles.

Riders who regularly find themselves in sloppy conditions also have a new option in the Continental Mud King, built with very tall and openly spaced knobs on an earth-slicing 2.3in casing. The dual-ply casing is reinforced with Continental's rubber-infused Apex sidewalls to help ward off pinch flats.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is the new X-King (say, 'cross king'), built with much shorter and relatively tightly packed knobs for a faster roll on mixed terrain. Side knobs are still relatively well reinforced for predictable cornering grip and the 2.4in size should make it popular with trail bike users

I have a 29er - bought a 2.2 Mountain King and it looked silly at the front, so swopped to a 2.4 (did Epic - great tyre). This is the sixe including the knobs so is about the same as a Race King 2.2 (which I have on the back). I will keep the 2.2 (still unused) for the back in a really tough day, or as a mud tyre on the front (more clearance)

Ourf MTB Tandem with 2.4 Continentals and cannot remeber what name. With the mass of two I just thought the 2.4 would give us that bit more and it did. Works well on hardpack..... we mostly used it on seriously potholed tar or gravel roads under construction in Mozambique and Angola. Some loose but not sandy terrain. Some rocky terrain and same roads above in wet during rainy season. We also did some jeep tracks and footpaths and it handled everything in its stride.
