Hello All,

The Garmin forums aren't the most user-friendly when it comes to finding relevant topics - so thought I'd give it a quick bash here...

Have the 305 - I've been lucky, in that it does what it's supposed to, so see no need to upgrade.

[This inserted to forestall all those who will simply suggest I buy the 705/500/800! :P]

I have the dreaded "X" flashing through the Cadence icon on the display unit.

But am still having my cadence measured - not the speed however - this is being done via satellite.

The magnet is no longer being picked up.

Red light flashes when the crank-arm sensor swings by, zip when the magnet passes.

Opened up the Sensor unit by unscrewing the little screw that holds the "speed-arm" in place, and noted that the black and brown little wires are still there, and appear to be attached to whatever is in the tip of the speed-arm.

Removed the unit, and rubbed the magnet up against it - after 'resetting' it - still no green light, only red when the crank sensor passes.

Noticed quite afew scratches on the tip of the speed-arm - which suggests that the magnet (which, imo, doesn't fasten to the spokes very effectively), must have moved at some point, and took some nasty swipes at the tip of the arm...

Anyone have a similar problem - is it safe to assume that the tip of the speed-arm has been irrepairably damaged, and that I've lost "speed" reading?

Fanks!

Yup, had the same problem once.

Chucked the speed/cadence sensor away and got a new one.

The answer from Avnic was basically - tough sh*t, the cadence sensor is a consumable.

Any magnet will also help as long as it is properly adjusted. Get a Polar magnet.

I've found Avnic to be pretty helpful in the past. Everytime I've had hassles or need an upgrade I've just popped in and been helped. Give them a buzz, don't know wher you are, but find out where their local branch is. (011) 2519999 Nathan is one of their technical managers and is quite clued up.
