Gear indicators on Xt shifters

IS there any way to remove the gear indicators on a set of XT shifters?

Easier then frying an egg. Just "relax" the levers in the highest (smallest) gear, remove the little screws (don't lose them), and lift it off. You will find the cover plates to cover the holes on the back of the indicators.

I removed mine so I could position my brake levers over the shifters.

Those screws are tiny - beware!
