Only one word: HARDCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being hardcore yourself is very different to letting your child try and be hardcore at the expense of his health and his future.

I saw the little guy out training with his Dad in Knysna on the way back from Cape Town this past Sat afternoon. I was pretty stoked to see he was hauling arse

What I remember, is that U14's shouldn't ride over 35km.

Can't really remember anything else blush.gif

Loved my first Argus at the age of 11

And the good ol' Stock 'n Stocks race in the Western Cape, 155km, aged 11.

Think my dad was a slave driver!, but I'm still cycling and loving it.

I'd be VERY cautious about these distances at such a young age!! (that is if you have plans for your son to become a top athlete one day perhaps....)

It is a known fact that whilst in the development phase (i.e bone & muscle growing years)....over training and over exertion will cause permanent damage later on.

I was fairly unaware of this until my laaitie's school (I attended their rugby meeting - outlining their proffesional approach to coaching and training) informed us that up to 16 years old....a boy shouldn't really be doing any heavy gym work...only with own body weight exercersizes. AND thta the boys that are pushing heavy weights from an early age on...are doing irreprabale damage to their growing bones etc.

So, caution from my side - get a proffesional's advice and follow it!!
