I want to buy a new MTB in January and got the short list down to the Silverback Spectra and the Merida TFS 800. Which one would be the better buy?

I have not ridden the Merida but we have a SB Ventura in the family and it is FAST for what it cost. I have also ridden a Spectra and it weighs virtually nothing, is super fast up a hill and has good components. For me there is only one choice here...

I see the Spectra has better crank and brakes than the Merida although the Merida has a bigger front disc

I don't know forks well enough to advise you on which fork is better. Merida has RST First Air 100 Remote and Spectra has Rock Shox Recon Gold TK Solo Air 100mm

Merida don't give their weight, I hate that. The Spectra is 11.60kg including pedals

The Spectra has a 2 piece BB, not sure about the Merida

BTW, I have a 2011 Silverback Spectra, I bought it at the end of September and I may be keen to sell it in January if I upgrade. It is a medium.

The TFS800 and Spectra is in the same pricing bracket. I must admit I favor the Spectra but I want to make sure I get the best value for my money. The GT is also a nice bike but I am not sure which model is equal to the Spectra.

I agree its best to compare Merida Mattts Lite 1000D to Silverback Spectra, the shock, gearing components and brakes are identical even the frames look similiar. I had a look at both but got a better deal on the Spectra.

I am looking at getting the Silverback Mercury 1, I am 99% sure I need an upgrade ;)

I just emailed the supplier Silverback to find out when the stock is arriving.

The 1000D Lite is substantially more expensive than the Spectra so that means the Spectra is better value for money, right?
