Missing tyre repair kit - Totalsport Challenge

Hi there,

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but lets try...

On the mountainbike leg of last week-ends Totalsport Challenge a guys in front of me had a tyre blown out. He offered help "borrowed" my pump, spare tube tyre levers. He had nothing with him.

We missed each other at the finish and I would like to make contact with him. Have no name!(All I know he had a strapped knee and can not be an experienced mountainbiker - no spares with him and tyre pressure equal to that of a roadbike by the sound of the blow out!

Anybody know this guy?

Regards

I had a somewhat similar experience at the event last year. Bit of a mission, but might be worth going through the photos and following up on racenumbers, not such a big event in terms of entrants.

Stupidly felt sorry for the first oke, who got all my stuff as he was carrying nothing. Saw him at the finish to get it back, and battled to get a thank you (or any compensation for a R50 tube) as all he could do was complain about the state of the rocky road.

The second oke got a quick lecture on self sufficiency in mtb riding after demanding the same help. I was racing solo so took a fair bit of effort to get that point and its risky being a good samaritan incase you need it yourself.

Both guys were weight weenie unitard wearing triathlete types with their surnames on their bums, which only further fueled my suspicions that the sport is permeated by a higher ratio of imbeciles than most. I know its bad to stereotype and I look forward to having this impression proven wrong in future

Hi SteveCT,

I agree 100% with your comments. The money lost is not the major issue (allthough it was was a very nice, small pump!) Not sure why I stopped (maybe just good nature on my side??? :D ) My wife and I finished second in the mixed pairs, only a few minutes behind the 1st team. The stop was on a steep incline and I had to stop twice after that to organise my chain+ gears again!

We were sort of in competition mode. Next time I will offer to have help send out when I get to the finish line!

Fun rides and tours are something else and I believe to stop and offer help is the right thing to do.

What do you think?

I once also borrowed and x-lite tube of R80 to someone in and race that he promised he will buy me and new one at the end of the race.

I got him at the end and he told me that that tube also got punctured and the threw it away, didn't even say thanks.
