I've been shopping around for some new MTB shoes since the beginning of December. I've tried on everything from Olympics to R3000 carbon DMT and everything inbetween. I've got very narrow feet and I normally run out of fastening strap before the shoes are secure enough.

So this weekend I went to Westdene cycles and saw the Specialized BG Sport shoe. A black and grey pair with some yellow detail. They did not have that in stock and I tried on a black and red pair. It fitted like a glove without any fiddling. The ticket price on the display shoe was R899 plus you get 15% off (without even asking) but when they rang it up it was R1150. The guy sayed it's because the pair I took was from the 2010 range and the 2011 range is cheaper. I got the '10 pair at the cheaper '11 price (don't forget the extra 15% off). First time that I've seen prices actually come down when the currency improves.

Anyway, I think these are now the best value for money shoes in SA. The Olympics are still cheaper but people will go for the Spez brand for R50 more.

This is the black and red pair.

I have a pair of these.

They're significantly lighter than Olympics, and also way more comfortable. Funnily enough, I also struggle with the narrow-feet problem, but then again I have a friend who also rides with a pair, and he's a big guy with big feet!

wow that is good value. I have been riding these for about 2 years. I need replacing soon. Unfortunately i am in Cape Town so i will have to speak to a local Spez dealer.

These are way better than olympics..
