Thought I'd share this discovery, since I would have loved to know about it before. Even though it's only for the folk who still run tubes.

 

In summer, when riding in the middle of the day, use new tubes with no patches on them. Otherwise the heat of the sun melts the glue on the patches and your tyre goes pffffflat. Happened no less than 3 times at the 24 hour this weekend.

 

Either that or leave your bike in the shade, and ride through rivers a lot.
