Hi guys. I am posting it here because I need advice and not all people look under "multisport" so forgive me if I am wasting time/breaking the rules.

In short: I have a rotator cuff injusry in my shoulder from all the swimming and needs a cortisone injection. Is there a good doctor in the Cresta/Greenside area that can do this for me. A GP will not do!!

PS:- And I know I should rather rehab and all that bullsh&t but I only need to swim until 06 March so I need `n quick fix.

Thanks guys

It is quick fixes that leaves you permanently injured.

Did you do a sonar on that shoulder? Which one of the rotator cuff structures are damaged and how is it damaged? Is it a bursitis/tear/impingement?

Yes steriods help for some cases but will only worsen other injuries.

What is a Traumeel injection?

It is sore on the upper outside part of my shoulder. I have had it before. The thing is that I am doing the Ultra Triathlon 6 March and thats it. I have trained swimming for a while now. Rehab starts with rest of up to 6 weeks for this kind of injury before the physio will touch me. If I get the injection I can do the event and then rest. It is tendons thats messed up and not muscle.

The exact same thing happened 3 years before the full IM and the ortophedic surgeon gave me that advice and the injection. He did tell me that a max of 2 injections however. I will only need one to help with the inflamation.

This time round I will just make sure I train and rehab afterwards.

In any case, I will talk to the docter - thats why I am asking for a specialist here and not going to my GP and saying "hoe lyk met `n setroiede inspuiting boet"

Do yourself a favour and go to the Centre for Sports Medicine in Rosebank. I had a bad knee injury in 2004. Cortisone injection didn't work and physio didn't help that much. My physio referred me to the Centre for Sports Medicine and I eventually had some or other injection (can't remember the name now) directly into the tendon. It was better within a few days. There was even some Lions rugby player having the same injection while I was there.

'Bout ten years back, I had "tennis" elbow that just didn't want to quit (and I wasn't even playing tennis then (or doing any woodwork for that matter)).

Went to the doc and got a cortisone jab in the elbow and two weeks later it was gone. Never been back since.

The thing is sports injuries occur for a reason and bascially your body is telling you to slow down. Sometimes you do need to listen to it.

Ja slave.... like I can afford to slow down after I have been training for 8 months for this half ironman!!!!

But ya I agree. Fortunately it has only started this week so no real damage has been done thusfar. Last time around I carried on for 6 more weeks with the same injury.
