Anyone else attend the Pharos time trial at Shongweni on Wed afternoon and find R20 a bit steep for one to cycle up and down a polo field? The 'time trial' was over a 1.5km 'course' (optimistic use of the term there) laid out on the polo field.

In addition I had to pay R30 for an EMBA temporary license, with the promise that the ride would take us into the cane fields. It was badly organised too. Seeing as the ride didn't take us into the cane, and I had a license, I went for a ride in the cane. So much better than riding a 1.5km loop on a grass field!

If you're thinking of attending, don't. Go ride in the cane instead, and if you want to do a time trial, go find a quiet road and do some loops/laps. You can then use your R20 to buy you some refreshment afterwards.

I won't be attending again, as I feel that I've been ripped off, especially as there is some very fine riding a few 10's of metres from the polo field. Pharos and Single-Track Minded will have to drastically improve this offering to make it viable. The flyer advertising this gave no details of the ride/loops. I suspect that if they'd stated it was a 1.5km loop, they'd have had far fewer attendees. There's a term for that behaviour: disingenuous.

Hey Dean

i def think you over-reacting a little...

Maybe they did over expose the ride saying its a "timetrial".....

The point about the ride is to encourage family members to join you....and not leave them at home every afternoon while you out putting in the hours.

I know for me its a blessing in disguise....i get to go do some intervals, social laps with my mates and time with my g.f all in the same afternoon.....as well as having a drink or 2 afterwards in the bar.

not all women appreciate their husbands putting in 15,10 or even 5 hours training while they sit patiently at home...
