Hi guys/girls.

Ive just bought my self a second hand (perfect condition) Focus Raven Expert 2009 Carbaon frame.

But when i was building it up from my old GtZaskar Team 05 Alloy, i saw that my previous headset would not fit my frame.

Ive now been searching for a headset for ages and i can;t find one with the right angled headset.

Please help

Thanks

What headset have you all tried?

Maybe look at a 45degree ACB (angular contact bearing) these are the bearings which sit inside the silver cups pressed into giant frames and are available from giant dealer and go for about 200 rand, I know the ones which come in giant branded boxes are FSA headsets as I inyalled one last week, the silver cups on the picture look very similar to the giant set up except it seems these in your case are mouldsed into the frame.

A list of what you have tried might help, we could go with a process of elimination

Headset bearings come in two general designations: 36/45 degree and 45/45 degree.

The former is the Cane Creek de facto standard, the latter is a pain in the neck. The former is freely available from severalmanufacturers at a very reasonable cost, the latter is available from one or two manufacturers at about three times the price of its standard cousin.

The two are not compatible. A good bike shop should have a FSA tool to measure the angles of either the frame or the bearing and match you with the right parts. If at all possible, fit a new headset with the 36/45 angles and be done with it all. This means you'll have to change the crown race, the compression ring and other bits and pieces - i.e. a new headset. However, integrated headsets like on that frame are cheap due to their reduced number of components.
