The BIG Yin

Seriously though, well done  , go 26" HT.

[29'ers are for those who's knees are starting to quake, along with their voices.]

Parts are also cheaper, and you are closer to the ground so you have more FUN !

I did the full 2010 MTN XC season on my Niner Air 29er HT and given the choice/budget I would have used a 26 HT. Sad for me to say because I'm the last of the 29er die hards.

I found the XC courses just too technical and tight for a 29er. A 26 HT is eaiser to chuck around/pick up and run/correct when your line is wrong.

A full susser I didn't enjoy - manualling and such is a bit random - the HT gives you great consistency.

Value for money 26HT definitely leads the way - better a med/high quality HT than a mid/low range dual susser...

So my vote - 26HT.

Hi there,

I privately sponsor a talented school boy who has shown incredible talent and dedication to MTB racing. He has just been invited to cycle for SA in the up coming international in March and July with his aim on representing SA in the olympic team.

I need to buy him an appropriate bike to give him the best chance of doing this discipline XC racing.

He is 61kg 1.88m tall and has an in seam of 85cm!! He rides an XL frame.

26' Ht?

26' Dual?

or 29' HT?

Dodger - have him remeasured - his inseam sounds too short. I'm 185cm with a 91.5cn inseam - I ride a Large frame.

I think a Large frame with a longer stem will suit him better than an XL frame - especially for XC.

Just to clarify - do you mean the national XC series or just XC in general? XC in general are 60km races with little in the way of technical - "proper" XC is short circuit lap racing that is really technical...

When buying the bike force them to throw in a pro fitting.
