kosmonooit Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) Funny, I have never declared when leaving and travel overseas normally twice a year. Some people swear by it and some people swear not to. I just never really thought about it. Guess its different if you were coming back with 2 boxed xbox 360's in your bag! Well dood you been lucky and it wont be so funny when your luck runs out lol. Problem is when you get stopped and you got goods you haven't registered for re-importation(cameras, video cameras, laptop, etc) they can make you pay duty on them. Thats the law. Very stressful after a long flight home when you have to deal with a mampara of a customs official. Its a mentality that has prevailed despite the change of guard. urbanroyal Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 if the bike is already boxed and packaged do they open it all up? Never had to unpack the bike , but they checked that imei number on my cell as well as the wife's phone and took down the serial number of my laptop. The customs in Cape Town is a little bit more stricter than Josie I hear, I have had clients switch on laptops to show old emails to prove that they had it for some time , buddies having gone home to fetch receipts and packaging of camera equipment to prove that it was not purchased overseas..
