  1. I have the Giant and VERY happy. I also had a look at the Trek, but you simply cannot compare the components. With the components in the Giant you would have expected it to be R6k more than the Trek. It is however R6k cheaper. I also did not like the colour scheme of the Trek. Did my research as I was concerned about the "thin" joint on the toptube against seat tube on the Giant. It was recalled in the US only. My research indicated that more people cracked the Trek GF frames than the Giant and you still have a lifetime warranty. The decision was easy. The one major diff is the sizing. Trek Large = 19", XL = 21" Giant Large = 20", XL = 22" What size do you need. PM me if interested and I will see what cash/internet price I can arrange for you with my contacts. What pi.... me off was that I could only get the Trek from Cyclelab and they kept promising for two months that it will arrive the next week. They took my number and to date have not even informed me that some arrived.
  2. RIP Carla
  3. ????????????????? What did you read? Only the 26" HT - 26" FS will remain active for a loooong time.
  4. Nope, boring. If it was possible, it would have been brilliant to see how many of the hubbers on this post and various other post being clever about 29ers, actualy riding it within the next two years.
  5. Cannot agree more. Everything will eventually reach it's shelve life. The dualie started it for the 26" HT, the 29er is just pushing it more and the 29er FS even more. Just because everyone is always "fighting" about these type of item, I will stirr the pot. It will always remain personal choice. Chicken or Beef? What I just don't like is a vegetarian commenting on the quality of steak. I see a lot of 26" believers that are experts on 29ers. By stirring, you identify those in that category.
  6. Yebo Yes. Now you are speaking some sense. Kev and David to take it for sure. Just wish we get more people to support the saffas.
  7. Another sour rider about the facts? Believe me, they deserve all the credits. It is however still a fact that 29ers was used. How much credit did Ferrari take for the 7 years? None-It was all just MS and he would have done it with a ???? Jordan.
  8. I am stirring the 26" brigade. Did you not mention that you are having waffels? What are you doing, posting Dave?
  9. I believe NO. Max Knox would have been up there. Remember that George was on his own. Look at previous races how they out foxed him with team riding. Max with Brandon would have been a much bigger factor. My question - Cannodale is bringing out 29ers. How long before Max and Brandon is also using it? What else can you do if the guys in front is using it?
  10. Also for whats it worth. I have very long legs and used a saddle height that most recommended - slightly lower. My upper legs took a beating and I once got lower back pain for about 30min after the Nissan Fast and Furious. Changed the saddle height to "optimum" and the uppers legs had much more power and endurance and the back never suffered again.
  11. Typical reply from a sour 26" rider. They had the choice and choose the 29ers. (Look at the big S - Burry will select a 29er and Sauser will select a 26" FS - because they can choose) This topic is about which one is faster. This weekend, 29ers was faster - FACT. You will need to live with it, same as I need to live with those that have never been on a 29er, commenting on 29ers.
  12. I am no expert. The core muscle, setup make sense. I don't have the best setup, nor the best core muscle and have scoliosis, but no back pain. For whats it's worth. I have heard stories from a couple of people that suffered back pain that it was sorted with a different saddle. Something to do with the with and how it makes your hips bend.
  13. Ja - please mention to everyone that you were on a 29er SS and finished very high. No refund awarded - just a big WELL DONE.
  14. First 3 places at the Attakwas. David George Stephan Sahm Karl Platt a Sign of the times? or just a stirr for those 26" believers? and don't come with the "because they are sponsored" story - they had the choice.
  15. Concidering that during XC they will do laps where the split times are within seconds. This 1% for them is a massive diff. Have you experienced a 29er? If you have not done at least 100km on a 29er, you cannot comment whether there is an advantage or not. Leave those to the guys that experienced both.
  16. I'm a novice against them and turn the big wheels like nothing.
  17. You would not expect anything else. I find a 29er to outrun a 26" in ALL departments, except for stuff like "bunny-hop"
  18. Go to Epic Sports at the Doornkloof Mall in Centurion. You will get the best service. Speak to Andre.
  19. Saw your post and must say it is the first time I heard this issue. I know a lot of people with Crossmarks and none had these issues on whatever rims. Is it the batched that was sold in Cape Town? Maybe grey imports? Recently a lot of people tried the Maxxis Ignitors and rave about it. It grips on everything, but does not last too long.
  20. Once again you will find plenty of post where people complained that these tires pops off the rim when going hard around corners or hitting some roots. A work friend did the Sabie experience in December and it happened twice with him in one day.
  21. You must be running it at 30bar. Have a look at some previous hub items where MTB tires was rated, not by me, but thousands of riders experiencing all different conditions. Number one was the Maxxis Crossmark. Very hot on the heals was Conti Mountain King/Race King combo. Then quite a distance to the rest. I've run Crossmarks on my 26" bike and never had a slip, a puncture, a leak, nothing in two years. In comparison I tried the Rocket Rons and it was absolutely terrible! Running the Conti Combo on my 29" bike and the grip is the same as with the Crossmarks. Maybe a bit more rolling resistance. Definately not as durable. So if you want to critize it that much, you need to show the proof. Like a poll clearly indicating your finding.
  22. Maxxis Crossmark LUST - awesome tire at a very nice price. You cannot beat the durability of these.
  23. Medium is also available, but in the white and blue. (As per your photo)
  24. Get a 29" MTB. Big guys realy like the big bikes. You will battle to get a correct frame size as most only makes up to 22" and Specialized a 23". The only quality bikes that I know that makes big frames is Ventana-USA. Search on the net for their site and details on the bikes, there is a couple of suppliers in SA. I have a friend that got a 25" dual suss 29er. When I stand next to the bike, the seat is exactly under my arm pit and I am 1.87.
  25. Giant recommended size for large [L = riders between 5’10” – 6’1” (1778 - 1854)]
