  1. Actually I found that it is such a complex "machine" that stupid or ignorant people - like myself - should rather not try to understand it. If one don't know what you doiing one can actually do more harm than good. And this I can tell you with a week of googling on the topic on my sleeve. Scary I tell you In other words - keep it simple and keep it real.
  2. Thank you !!
  3. Must admit Airbender - You can tap yourselve on the back. I should have - but did not and today I feel guilty and cross with myself Why , Why o why??
  4. First of all thank you Break for the time and trouble you put into the reply. I honestly appreciate it I am certain that you are correct. And also I think sometimes me being clever are actually me being stupid. Normally... I ride at a pace slower and a less demanding route ( flatter) and I actually did start to loose weight at the rate you described - 2 kg in about a months time. And drinking the detox was with no real purpose. Bought it a few months ago and used it like a vitamin supplement. With no real structure. This was not the first time I had this type of problem. It was as if I get stripped of my fitness ever so now and then. Was at the doctor. Did a lot of blood tests and not any thing wrong. Actually the doctor was impressed with most of my test results ,but that did not solve my problem. But the last time I decided to drink the detox pills as prescribed on the bottle continuously and only then I could see the side effects to its full effect! And yes: Apart from not being able to keep up with the rest of the group, I started to be so sick with headaches, nausea etc. in the following days, that I could not ride at all. It was then when I started to suspect these damn detox pills. I did a lot of googling in the past week, but could honestly not find a website that spelled it out in terms that I could be certain my theory is correct. And honestly ......I don't want to be clever again! Do I understand it correct in my following assumption: The detox pills cleanse ones body and in the effect the liver as well. Which means the liver gets stripped from that glycogen stuff that is supposed to be my stored energy. Therefore the loss of energy and also - in previous cases - endurance. Now here is another question. If my theory is correct. How do I now fix it. Obviously throw away the pills and then?? Carbo loading for the first few days Eat breakfast Take more than water on the ride- ie Energy drink? Will that be a quick solution?
  5. No I have not - chemist was out of stock. Do you think I must rather try that?
  6. Not something in specific - It is a matter of : Seen it in the chemist and thought well I drink coffee etc. So my body can probably do with a detox. I think I am actually doing more wrong than right.
  7. I drank herbal detox pills 2 x 3 times a day - which was the maximum recommended I am on a some sort of a watch what you eat type of diet - trying to loose some weight If I exercise in the mornings I drink cup of coffee and take water with on my bike. Last Friday I went for a ride with group and started sweating excessively and had absolute no power of strength. I just could not keep up. But had no problem the previous week to keep up Told them to go on and battled on on my own. Was very sore(muscles) the next day. Doctor could not really find any thing wrong with me and I am still wondering what happened. Could the detox and all the rest be a solution or the reason?
  8. Can someone please explain to me what is the effect of detoxing the body and exercising? I tried Google, but it only refers to MILD exercise. ie yoga and walking. I was wondering what effect it will have on 70-80% HR ie going up a mountain or endurance My question is: If I have been on a week of detox, will it cause me to bonk or is the correct term crash if I do this type of exercise?
  9. This happened to me as well. Someone told me it could be an Iron deficiency and I took some iron on Friday and it made a HUGE difference on my training ride on Saturday. Google Iron deficiency. Your body uses iron to make hemoglobin which carries the oxygen in your blood. Now as soon as you go up an hill, you body ask for more oxygen and then there isn't any which is when you get loss of power. (this my my simple explanation- I am sure the clever people will correct me in a hundred ways) But also read that you should take care not to drink to much because that is not good either.
  10. I think it is really funny
  11. At this stage I have two very eager teenagers in our "home gym", but will try and get an inning Well..... they are so clever - they can help me with all these lingo as well. Thank You will do But as Yang suggested, nothing to hard.
  12. Thank you Yang. Your solution seams like a workable plan for me. I will try the spinnig at keep the efforts to 50%
  13. I do MTB (1 hour sessions) 3-4 times a week and on weekends a do road. Lately I find that the MTB (hills) and the road part were there are hills is to much it is as if my legs just does not have the power to climb any more. Flat road seems fine. And I was just able to see an improvement. If I just do spinning sessions or flat roads? Will that work or do I really have to stay of the bike? Questions 1 - 7 : Yes Questions 8: No I am mid fourties and don't consider that as young. Maybe If I stayed in a old age home, but outside probably middle aged?
  14. Gheezz.. I am a girl . And no comment is difficult. In my opinion I was happy with the way it used to work. But I have to agree that the latest way of forcing one to be a PPA member is not on. If I did not join out of my own free will, but was forced to join in such a manner, I would have been just as upset
  15. No Coenie. I misunderstood the tread. I was not aware of the latest rules of the PPA and racetec - As you could gather from my last post. At this stage I will reply with a gracious : No Comment
  16. I only joined the PPA in June 2010. But before that(3years), my time showed on the racetec website - but not the PPA website. I was not seeded at PPA and I had to start right at the back of races. And that is the reason why I joined the PPA and to get seeded and the discount on the races
  17. And discount prices at events!! I am starting to sound like a PPA rep
  18. Yes - but shoot me - I don't see the problem. As you say.. it is your choice not to be a member and with that not to enjoy the member's benefits. If I am not a member of the local golf club, surely I cannot complain if I don't enjoy the benefits that the members do
  19. Now in all aspects I am a noob and an amateur. But the way I understand it is as follows: I buy a racetec chip and do a race. Whether I am seeded or a member of the PPA, my results will show on racetec's website. It will not show on PPA's website and I will not be seeded, therefore I will have to start at the back of a PPA race with no change of the so very important bunches etc. So in my opinion, if I want the benefit of seeding I have to join the PPA and If not I start at the back. Simple......... or do I have a misunderstanding of the whole thing?

    big tandem

    Very sharp !
  22. Jaa well......... that confirms it - I don't know what I am talking about. At least I am asking for advice
  23. Thank You for everyone’s input. I have a training program, but I think Bikemonster explained my approach to training the best. Ride a lot Ride far Ride fast Ride slow Ride hills Ride flats Ride different routes Enjoy it. Have fun. Although I want to improve, I do know myself and a structured training program and technical stuff like lactating thresholds will take the fun out of cycling. So I guess what I was asking is: If I try to ride harder and faster on the hills– will it make me better on the distances?
  24. I am hoping to raise my lactate threshold - which - as far as I understand - will increase my endurance. I am open for any suggestions.
  25. If I use a route with regular hills en downhills and I use that as in interval training. Riding the hills at 90% HR and resting on the downhills. Will it have the same effect as interval training or do I have to do structured intervals. PAARL BERG n-s.bmp
