  1. O OK. At least now... I will be able to sleep the next few nights. But yeah. Looks like the terrain can be challenging by it self. Or how does the real MTB'ers call it? Technical.
  2. Ek is ingeskryf, maar ek vermoed ek gaan DEFINITIEF my fiets stoot ook Saterdag.
  3. Mmmmm. I roughly count a ascent of about 1850m on the 30KM route. Is darem ook nie vir kinders nie hoor
  4. I understand that I will be much stronger and that is why I am committed to do base training, but someone told me last night that if I don't do long runs (as per your example) the only thing I will accomplish is getting unfit. As I don't have the partners or the time on weekdays for 3- 4 hours sessions am I wasting my time with 1 hour sessions?
  5. OK Call me stupid, but I don't understand. Does Base training means that once a week (or more by preference) for a period of 12- 16 weeks I take a ride for - say 4 hours at 60 - 70 % of my heart rate irrespective of the distance and the rest of the week I ride at which ever HR ( MTB 90% HR) OR Does it means that for 12-14 weeks any effort on my bike , my HR should - at all times - be with in 60- 70 % of my HR. No exceptions - at all- ever? Which means for the next 3 - 4 months. No MTB races - Not that I race- It is more of: Another one I survived within the cut off times
  6. I need to set the record strait. Over the weekend I posted a thread about a group that dropped me on a beginners ride and left me on the mountain. This was in fact not true. Once I realized I made a mistake I asked Admin to delete the thread but by the time he did, I think the damage was done already. So please allow me to set the record strait: The description of the ride was as follows: own pace up the mountain and then regroup at the top. So reading it again, I reckon that if they were not at the top waiting for me, they would have left me. But I turned around before that. And the rider I passed on my way down was, in fact, the sweeper. I apologize for the statement I made and hope that this could clear their name in some or other way.
  7. Let me put it this way. I actually made and appointment with a dietitian and took my eating plan according to my blood type to her. I wanted her to evaluate the diet and tell me whether it is balanced enough. Now as you cant eat wheat, it gets very expensive, because you must now replace wheat with something else and you will be shocked to know how many food contain wheat in some or other form. For instance: Pasta R9.00 - Pasta that is wheat free R35.00 So she pointed out that there is no scientific proof that the diet works. She then gave me a balanced and controlled( and as chris w said that is the secret) diet plan which I now follow. I have made some stupid mistakes with dieting and then not have power to cycle in the last year so I am not really taking chances now. Hope this helps
  8. Yes I have . Seems like you are b+ ?? Tried it . Did loose weight. But was a bit worried as someone told me it was crap and unbalanced. Went to a dietician and now am loosing weight like you cannot believe. 1 kg a week!! Worth every penny I paid - after batteling to loose weight for more than a year.
  9. Ai Roer. Hope you get sorted. I trained for the whole winter on my own last year. Joined a group in October and really enjoyed it. The group spirit etc is great. Unfortunately it now get too dark in the mornings ( 5h00) for me to join - but I now miss it. I have to ride on my own again - at a time safer for me, but as you say..... it is crap
  10. Well I guess that you are lucky in that way ..... I am not. And I posted it in the sense of ..........Use it or Loose it. And by reading this thread, you lost it already. So why bother with something new?
  11. Have a look at the Blood type diet. You use your blood type and then they have a list of food types that is beneficial, neutral or food types that one must avoid. Now I have been trying to loose weight for the past year and in the process gained 12 kg. To me it seems that the harder I try, the more weight I gained. Since on the blood type diet, I lost 3.5kg (last 3 weeks). which is not much compared to the 12 - but I am now moving in the right direction. According to this food list , I unknowingly ate about everything that I should avoid, but according to the norm is diet food. (ie chicken, tomatoes, corn and wheat.) Might help More information http://www.livestrong.com/blood-type-diet/ List of foods per blood type http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/bloodType/index.html
  12. MMMMM I can feel no pressure May be after you all did the 99ner 3 times!!
  13. Someone posted these IDT workouts https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/96980-idt-workouts/ All different type of workouts. Rollers, Hills, Slow Burning, Sweat Fest and more... I downloaded it on my cellphone (MP3-format). It is a full on spinning class. I find it quite challenging - but then again...... that makes it fun. And a challenge always keep your mind busy while you body is working. But do all the other tips fans, etc. Because yes.. you work hard and you will sweat
  14. SeaBee I would like to join the ride. I think I will be able to keen up with that pace
  15. Maybe it is just because I have a mathematical mind - but this makes perfect sense to me. And suddenly the penny drops on a lot of things.
  16. Yes I know and that is why I got tested for that. I now only take one pill (20mg)- sorry milligrams -a week - just to top it up?? Since I bought it.
  17. I did both the hemoglobin and the iron test. Doctor gave it one look and said their is nothing wrong with it. Although I feel strangely stronger when I do take Iron supplements ( 20 g ) per day, but that can all be in the mind?? edit : I will go and ask for copies and look at it myself Dr Mads in the house Uhmm Well see.
  18. My 2c I am very cautious and I would not take the risk. I think you playing with fire. Ask yourself whether a few places up the racing ladder is worth the risk. Someone here on the hub gave the advice that you should be able to pronounce all the ingredients of a supplement. Now say Methyhexaneamine
  19. Don't know whether cycling and rugby falls in the same category, but read this article. Jack 3d
  20. Well that is my question. If I have been to the doctors and they could not find anything wrong, I must do something non medical wrong. As in training or eating patterns. I would like to discuss this with someone and get advice from someone knowledgeable enough to help me and recognize the mistakes I make and give me pointers but I don't know where to go. I do agree that someone with the likes of Jenny Stenerhag will never have to have a sleepless night over the two of us entering the same event , but I also feel that if I aim for a very conservative time like 3.5 - 4 hours on a 100km is not unreasonable. As someone said, I am not the type of person who are willing to do lenghty discussions on my eating and...... and .......and...... in public and would like to go to someone in person. But as very little in life are for free, I would like to go to the correct type of person the first time. Will it be a dietitian or trainer or whatever. Who is most likely to solve my problem?
  21. In my case I so badly want to go and ride and I keep trying but after riding through winter and really trying to improve to a next level I am worst than if I did not do anything this winter. It is as if in the last two months I just got weaker and weaker. I now have now power and no stamina at all. Went to the doctor Went to a second doctor Lots of blood tests Nothing wrong Then the guessing game started Lots of pills - Lots of money - no effect Nothing gets better What is my next step were do I go now?
  22. If one is overtrained. How will you know? I mean should I go to a doctor or sport scientist or something in that direction?
  23. Must say : I am also very interested in the current coaching fees
  24. In my opinion you get two types of people on bicycles: Cyclists and Argusriders
