  1. Did a Tokai/Constantia green belt ride. First time on the rough stuff in a couple of years. It was awesome. 7 speed rigid handled just fine. Me on the other hand needs thicker gloves and maybe a kidney belt [emoji23] Supid me was also having to much fun and forgot to snap a pic [emoji15] Next time I'll remember. 2. There is a minimum thickness you can skim to. You'll have to measure and check the spec. Sometimes it's stamped on the rotor. If you run your fingernail over the rotor and it gets caught or you have a bad ridge on the edges skim. If not just pads should do. Well that's my rule anyway worked for me so far. 3. Caska make a unit that slots right in and can be specced with GPS, have a Google. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  4. This was on my way back from this mornings ride after I went back to scarbs for a rescue. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  5. The City were surveying and engaging with the community to see who would be willing to be relocated to have more space available. It started a while ago. These "settlements" are highly dynamic and its quite a mission once people have settled to then go in and do grids and blocks with better access. Their hand has now been forced but they still need community buy in to layout access roads and firebreaks. Some people will be displaced and where do they stay once the work starts? Its not easy. Its about 2 months that the folks staying would have to live in limbo before rebuilding. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  6. Holy moly did you read the article properly? It says the city pays the participants R500 each to ride. I got short changed man, they made me pay to ride. Then the left over food was went to HB after sitting in the sun all day.... the race was cancelled, food was fresh. What about all the cyclist who went down there to help. WTF man do they even have an editor.Sure they not a mouthpiece for the national rulling alliance. [emoji57] Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  7. Hi all. I'm looking for 26", rim brake wheelset with a 7 speed freehub/cassette, am I looking for unicorns here? I'm willing to pay just can not find a set. Can someone point me in the right direction please. Sorry if this is not the thread for this, admin feel to move this post to relevent section. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  8. If you registered and picked up your race pack you are in for next year by my understanding. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  9. Just anounced guaranteed entry next year for all who collected race packs. Still have to pay but don't care next year will be my first CTCT Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  10. I was thinking the same thing. I'm just above the bread line according to his comparison. Wish I could afford a nice 20k bike and here he has 4 x 100k+ bikes. One of his bikes are the same price as my car and my bakkie [emoji33]. Not wealthy my arse. Although I'm comfortable I have everything I need, sure I would like more but I don't really need it, I also make sure I give. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  11. Sure you can pay the extra money for applications for contingency road closures, more signage a week before that the M3 inbound lane may be closed, find another start point, reroute everyone after all the planning has been done and plans approved. I don't think you have any idea of what it takes to pull off an event involving city officials, Emergency services and traffic control. There are laws and by-laws governing massive public participation events like this. Besides the fact that the wind decided that it would prove the meteorologists wrong on the day and put on a show of near gale. But nothing will change the minds of those who feel aggrieved by the cancellation right. The organisers suck at making this race happen thats why it is the first one ever that has been canceled, because they have no clue. The other 39 were all flukes. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  12. So The highest windspeed recorded at the cable station today................ 101km/h Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  13. It was the right call. Granted I'm upset it would have been my first CTCT, I use the Argus route for my rides on the weekend and do ride in the wind but after the race was cancelled I went out and did a ride to Simonstown. The wind is hectic, I lost a layer of skin going through Glencairn and got moved around by the wind a bit. I can only imagine what the crosswinds on the top of hospital bend, down Chappies and the top of the bossie would be like. Now add a bunch of people who only go and ride when there is no wind and people who haven't ridden the route before and carnage would ensue. Then add all the other stuff happening, protests and fires and you have a recipe for disaster. Some say plan better and need better contingencies, are you expecting the organisers to screen riders to see if they can handle the wind? Say only the pro's and top seeded okes can start and you have an outcry. With the protests, move the route, some one will get wind of it and a protest is easy to move you can find bricks, bins and move tyres anywhere along a route quickly. With the fires, how about putting all your eggs and one basket and allocating all Emergency services to the fire to try and put it out quickly, what happens if another starts how quickly can you move resources with half the 'burbs main roads closed? As much as I would have liked to have had a CTCT under my belt I can sympathise with the organisers, but IMHO they did the right thing. Imagine having people seriously injured or god forbid die having an off on Chappies. Then everyone would be up in arms because the organisers should have stopped the race, or getting a brick lobbed at a cyclist going 60km/h. Its a no win situation. Anyway have a lekker day the wife and I are going for lunch. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  14. If you do don't get frustrated. Road works with stop go from Kalkbay to Fishoek, water main repair entering Simonstown, tourist busses and heavy traffic all over Simonstown, road shoulder cleanup through Scarbs - Misty cliffs, Road markings being painted on Kommetjie Road. Be careful and take it easy if you riding. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  15. Its being resurfaced, or should I say surfaced properly. They started on monday. I went through there yesterday, half of the outbound lane was already done and they where busy doing the inbound lane. So the section from kalkbay traffic lights to halfway down the "roadworks" section was completed yesterday, outbound and inbound. You'll be pleased to know the drain covers are now level with the road. Mostly. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  16. Just drove through the section of roadworks between Kalkbay and Fishoek, they are busy preping sections for resurfacing [emoji322] I doubt they will manage to get the whole stretch done but some of it has been scraped. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  17. I'm doing it on a mtb. Sub 5 would be great [emoji2] . Anyhoo road closure signs are going up along the route. Quite excited now. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  18. Its not as bad or as long as the potholed section the 99er went through. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  19. Shame met a oke who took a tumble there on Sat. Chatted to him while he waited for his rescue vehicle. Hope he can still ride the CTCT. Hurt his shoulder pretty bad. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  20. The wind is only an issue till Smits and even then there are a few "protected" stretches. Then if its blowing the first part chappies and suikerbossie are easier. If its blowing hard chappies is ***. In my experience that is. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  21. I noticed that the Stellies tour was timed at different points but this one was just start and end surely if they timed at the halfway point of the 102km all this would be avoided. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  22. Those elliptical things are very cool. And they did finish. Rode next to one for a bit its quite noisy. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  23. Thanks for all the replies. Baked baby potatoes and some racefood bars looks promising. Will get some hammer gel for those last "little" hills. I'm by no means in the 3hr category lol, I'm overweight not particularly fit (only started cycling socially just before last years Argus) and am riding an old Trek 800 7x3 mountain bike. So if I do under 5 I'll be happy. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  24. If you go back a few post I posted a guide to eliminating brake squeal, if you have done all that and you still have a squeal it could be sticky slide pins or hard spots in the pad. I was once broke and needed break pads. I bought really cheap ones, those things just sqealed like hell no matter what I did, if they weren't squealing they were making a horrible grinding noise. They got tossed the next payday and I've always used ATE after that. Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
  25. So my start time is 7:44, anyone willing to give some advice wrt nutrition on the ride for a noobie? I did stellies and 2 bananas and a energy chocky didn't cut it. [emoji85] Sent from my SM-A510F using Tapatalk
