  1. Hi I stopped and picked up a Racetec timing chip on the trails at Modder last Saturday morning. I have contacted Racetec they informed me that they cannot reveal owners details. PM me if you have lost your Racetec chip number: RT345936
  2. Thanks for all the info Dieter. I have ridden the ruins a year or so ago and they are great fun to ride! Not everyone that rides at Modder knows about them and I have spoken to a few people that struggled to find them. Perhaps a group ride guided by the experienced riders is a good idea. We are fortunate to have these tracks on 'our doorstep', for the Edenvale and Bedfordview residents, so to speak. There really is a good variety of different trails to ride , for all abilities, at a reasonable price!I was a little disappointed in the marking of the Yellow route trail, for those that are not familiar with the route there are some arrows that are misleading and a few that need to be added! Happy to support our local trails and will keep an eye on this thread should anyone take the initiative to set up a group ride there in the future!
  3. Rode past a guy on a Fatbike with a puncture on Sunday towards the end, in the 55km 947 MTB race. Hope he had a big enough tyre lever, those tyres have some serious rubber. Hope it wasn't a side wall cut that needed a tube insertion, gonna take some carrying a spare tube like that. Perhaps he wrapped it around his waist.......hold on that's a great excuse and good reason for the bulges under my cycling shirt........that's it I am going to buy a Fatbike!!!
  4. Precious bud! Keep the bike handy and accessible! My boy was the same ......applying the right amount of 'pressure' without over doing it is the key to keeping them interested! Soon he will learn and observe your love of riding and want to ride with you! There are sooooo many distractions but once the bug bites you will be smiling! Good luck bud!
  5. Agreed! I also subscribe to the old adage ' Don't invest in anything that eats while you sleep'!
  6. I hope you are a dad, or become a dad one day! It is great riding with your boy and seeing him enjoy the sport and do well. Our long rides together exploring new places are priceless, but of course being a boy he also wants to race......every week! But hey rather on the trails in the outdoors than hanging around a Mall or stuck inside playing electronic games all day! Long may it continue!
  7. I presume you are dad paying for your youngsters race entries! I am highlighting the cost of the entries and number board purchases for these races! My son rides for his school team for the love of it, and yes I would complain even if he didn't win anything. Thanks to the organisers for giving something that can be spent on this expensive sport.....he has a few trophies for his wins in the past which he cherishes!
  8. We are well aware of the 2 riders that went of course, they are my son's school team mates, who were fuming at indecisive course markings and directions given at a particular water point! Fact is my son had a few riders in front of him to follow and he finished 3rd and his prize money didn't cover the money I spent for his entry. He did enjoy the ride in Artic conditions. Would we do it again.....probably not. The price of entries into these events dictates that we will have to be selective in how many and which events we ride in future!
  9. Late entry R230 plus R25 for a Racetec number board ( we are forced to buy even though we have a Racetec chip!
  10. Well done to the Rolling Stones! My son came third in Junior Men category in the 34km MTB event.......his prize money didn't even cover the entry amount!!
  11. Tried that......no joy! All I get is.................................................................................................. Results For: Sat 28/10/2017 Carnival City Macsteel National Classic MTB Race 2017 (34km) Sorry, no results found or available at the moment.
  12. I wonder when Racetec are going to post the MTB results from yesterday? Strange that they put up the road results from today and not the MTB results!
  13. My dog ate my spare Maxxis.......I need new ones!
  14. Looks like the only way to stop these law breaking taxi drivers, and taxi owners for that matter, because they are allowing a non licenced driver drive their non roadworthy vehicle, is to impound the taxi! Then we will see the worms come out of the woodwork! The taxi owners have been getting away with this type of crime for too long now! The real issue the PPA needs to bring to the SAP and Metro police is why they fear these taxi owners so much and let them get away with this time and again! Why was the driver not arrested? Does it take a fatality to impose the law properly?
  15. Thanks Dieter, I will tick the box to say I have entered, hopefully no one will check FB! I will say a pray and ask for forgivness before I go to sleep tonight! Not on FB for various reasons! If win the Scott ( I really like their bikes for the good value for money )I will invite you for a spin around Modder!
  16. The fact that they have linked the competition to FB puts me off and makes me look for other MTB competitions to enter!
  17. Nice bike, would be great to win it......pity you need to go through Vlies Book to enter! That's me not riding a Scott in the near future!!
  18. R510 is a lot of money, but for me it is my annual pilgrimage down to the Mother City to ride, what is in my opinion, the best race in the country! It does mean budgeting through out the year and forgoing the odd night out! The FOMO I would endure not doing the race, while all my mates were, is not worth the pain! So roll on number 12 for me next year! God willing!
  19. Well done Henri! You are an inspiration to us all! I must admit we didn't know much about you but you gave us all something to cheer as we watched this exciting race! It would have been great to have Richard up there with you in the medals but hey 3rd and 4th in such a strong field is brilliant!
  20. Great for Di Data but somewhat of a hollow victory considering that Etix Quikstep was banned from entering! With Kittel in the form he is in one wonders how many of the sprint finishes Cav and Kristoff would have won had they competed?
  21. Great news for African cycling watch our climbers feature regularly, led, we hope by Meintjies! Can't wait to see the final selection and see them line up on the start line in Holland. Pity they have chosen to wear the Newcastle United kit I would have preferred to see them in Man Utd colours!!
  22. Hi Forme, get yourself down to Karaglen centre, Harris Rd, Edenglen on a Sat or Sun morning! Very friendly enjoyable riding with well organised routes and safety vehicles! You will be back again and again! Edenglen Cycling Club is the best club in the country!!
