  1. Thanks, is the 26er the old V- brake type. I have a 26 front wheel I will try and source a rear wheel and cassette for him.
  2. Great thanks. Were can I collect? Hoping you are in the JHB area?
  3. Shot in the dark.....if anyone has a used but not being used at the moment old bike they want to get rid of. Please let me know. I would like to replace my garden engineers stolen bike. Any condition would be gratefully accepted. He now has serious transportation challenges and to be honest is getting a bit 'chunky', now that his source of transportation/ exercise has been cruelly taken off him.
  4. I hope they didnt send you down the same trails that were 'chocolate mousse' for us on Stage 2 of the Chardonnay! After pushing through the mud up Protea Alley and then trying to carry our bikes, the only way to get through the quagmire, through Rietvlie Magic, washing our bikes, for the fourth time in the last 3 hours, in the dam at the end, we pulled the plug. Flagged down a motorbike marshall, and asked him to guide us out of the mudbath on a ridable trail back to Oak Valley. No fun for the back markers, we should have been warned that the trails would be unridable. I was very thankfull that I was not staying in the tents, the cold and marshlike conditions around the camp were not great. Day 3 was an enjoyable day of riding, but at the end, in the hospitality tent, with no Lager left on sale and the under cooked, raw pizzas served, the only form of replenishment for a hard few hours of riding, was not enjoyable.
  5. Hi, contact Andrew Lucas A.K.A. Dr Lefty, at Velotopia. He has a workshop in Limbro Park: 082 333 6406. Best Lefty mechanic around!
  6. Riding the Pinotage, also my first W2W, looking forward to riding those lekker Cape trails and enjoying the great wine infused Cape hospitality.
  7. Thanks Squier, great video. Tranquilitas looks like the place. We did the Mankele camping thing a few years ago and enjoyed it!
  8. Looking to spend a few days riding with my son and maybe a little fishing if available?
  9. We decided to do something a little different, having travelled all the way from JHB, and not wanting to waste our hours of training for the DC. We rode to Arniston and back with 7 of our team, plus our backup vehicle that we did not want to waste, and really enjoyed it. Our other choice was to do a coffee ride and stop somewhere in Swellendam on the way back for brunch. Which would probably have meant having our first adult beverages with said brunch and everything going south and a bit rowdy after that! A few drops of rain and a side wind there and back, besides that great conditions to cycle 194kms in. A completely new route for us made up for the huge disappointment of the DC cancellation, and we enjoyed it throughly! It also meant we could hold our 'fines meeting' at the braai that night, which went way south! Unfortunately we where unable to collect our DC socks, we weren't too worried about the braai pack, a hungry local probably put that to better use! We have e-mailed them requesting them to courier the socks to us, no reply as yet. I do think this cancellation is going to hurt the event in future, especially with those that travelled from far, unless some kind of compensation is offered, other than preferential entries for the next event!
  10. I have nothing but praise for this bike shop, if ever a bike shop deserves to do well in these trying times it is GMC! Craig and his team have stellar attitudes and the service they put out there is an example not only to other bike shops but to all retail outlets! Remembering the great service we got when one of our school boy MTB riders had his bike stolen and Craig and his team had no hesitation in lending him a Santa Cruz,at very short notice, set up and all, rider enabling him to compete in the race held at Cascades! They will always have our support! Bravo GMC!
  11. So having visited Swellendam again for the awesome but windy PPA Double Century, a few of our team decided to support and sample some of the wines in the region. By far the best we tasted was the Bonnievale River Merlot 2017. I think we paid R76 a bottle in the local Tops. Great red for the price, so much so that we have returned to JHB and placed an order for a few boxes via Cellars Direct. Having joined the Bonnievale wine club I pay R63 a bottle. Can't wait to receive my order for my Christmas stash!
  12. Apologies for the double photo, my first time posting in this relatively new format. My mate sent this to me, love the Osjaar reference!
  13. Thanks for all the info Dieter. I have ridden the ruins a year or so ago and they are great fun to ride! Not everyone that rides at Modder knows about them and I have spoken to a few people that struggled to find them. Perhaps a group ride guided by the experienced riders is a good idea. We are fortunate to have these tracks on 'our doorstep', for the Edenvale and Bedfordview residents, so to speak. There really is a good variety of different trails to ride , for all abilities, at a reasonable price!I was a little disappointed in the marking of the Yellow route trail, for those that are not familiar with the route there are some arrows that are misleading and a few that need to be added! Happy to support our local trails and will keep an eye on this thread should anyone take the initiative to set up a group ride there in the future!
  14. Precious bud! Keep the bike handy and accessible! My boy was the same ......applying the right amount of 'pressure' without over doing it is the key to keeping them interested! Soon he will learn and observe your love of riding and want to ride with you! There are sooooo many distractions but once the bug bites you will be smiling! Good luck bud!
  15. Agreed! I also subscribe to the old adage ' Don't invest in anything that eats while you sleep'!
  16. I hope you are a dad, or become a dad one day! It is great riding with your boy and seeing him enjoy the sport and do well. Our long rides together exploring new places are priceless, but of course being a boy he also wants to race......every week! But hey rather on the trails in the outdoors than hanging around a Mall or stuck inside playing electronic games all day! Long may it continue!
  17. I presume you are dad paying for your youngsters race entries! I am highlighting the cost of the entries and number board purchases for these races! My son rides for his school team for the love of it, and yes I would complain even if he didn't win anything. Thanks to the organisers for giving something that can be spent on this expensive sport.....he has a few trophies for his wins in the past which he cherishes!
  18. We are well aware of the 2 riders that went of course, they are my son's school team mates, who were fuming at indecisive course markings and directions given at a particular water point! Fact is my son had a few riders in front of him to follow and he finished 3rd and his prize money didn't cover the money I spent for his entry. He did enjoy the ride in Artic conditions. Would we do it again.....probably not. The price of entries into these events dictates that we will have to be selective in how many and which events we ride in future!
  19. Late entry R230 plus R25 for a Racetec number board ( we are forced to buy even though we have a Racetec chip!
  20. Well done to the Rolling Stones! My son came third in Junior Men category in the 34km MTB event.......his prize money didn't even cover the entry amount!!
  21. Tried that......no joy! All I get is.................................................................................................. Results For: Sat 28/10/2017 Carnival City Macsteel National Classic MTB Race 2017 (34km) Sorry, no results found or available at the moment.
  22. I wonder when Racetec are going to post the MTB results from yesterday? Strange that they put up the road results from today and not the MTB results!
  23. My dog ate my spare Maxxis.......I need new ones!
  24. Looks like the only way to stop these law breaking taxi drivers, and taxi owners for that matter, because they are allowing a non licenced driver drive their non roadworthy vehicle, is to impound the taxi! Then we will see the worms come out of the woodwork! The taxi owners have been getting away with this type of crime for too long now! The real issue the PPA needs to bring to the SAP and Metro police is why they fear these taxi owners so much and let them get away with this time and again! Why was the driver not arrested? Does it take a fatality to impose the law properly?
