  1. A note on lights: I get the impression that safety devices are deemed 'uncool' by many cyclists, and then they are gradually adopted as the norm. Take helmets for example pre- nineties. I think this is the case with lights too. I use a blindingly bright flashing rear and front light EVEN IN THE DAY! I have this theory that it makes the motorist notice the cyclist much earlier, especially in low sun conditions. Lights came to about R250-00 for both and I use rechargeable batteries, so I'm not fussed about running them all the time.
  2. flashing red lights Ok, sometimes its the little things that get remembered. I'm a firm believer in always making sure my rear end is lit up when I ride, even in the daytime. After smashing the lens and later breaking the clip of my R80-00 Ravx rear light, on separate occasions due to my own raw, dismounted clumsiness, I was quite amazed that City Cycles offered to send it in to Ravx when I had basically come in to purchase a new one. Half a week later I had a call to say it was back from "repair" and went to fetch what seemed like a completely new unit with new packaging, bracket and batteries nogal! no charge! Thanks guys, you really made my day.
