  1. Surfer We stayed in a barn about 4k's from the start. One of my buddies arranged the accommodation. Slight hi jack: We were six, three had pasta and went to bed at 10pm. The other 3, myself included, had some whiskey and a braai and got to bed after midnight. Who won? The meat eaters by 20 minutes!
  2. Done both. Problem is that I did K2C in a heat wave (2000 or 2001) and I was very unfit at the time and suffered. Did 7weekspoort last year, was well prepared and found it a fairly easy ride. Will say that you need to be beter prepared for K2C, 30km longer and longer climbs. 7weeks has a climb or two, but not serious at all.
  3. I also cramp during endurance events, running or cycling 4 hrs +. I sweat a lot and tried the following: Extra teaspoon of table salt in my pre race hydration drinks with lots of extra water, no notable difference USN'S Crampblock prior and during the event, worked for me during an 8 hour event, but i was well prepared and never pushed myself into the red zone. But nothing beats good honest long distance training. As one of my cycling buddues says: You get cramps because you have taken your muscles to a place they haven't been before and they do not like it there.
  4. P Eagle I've had the Cycleops Fluid for about 3 weeks, only IDT that I've ever used, so I cannot compare it with anything else. But it is quiet and easy to use and the resistance increases as you increase the cadence. A buddy who has one of the older magnetic IDT's was very impressed when he had a look at the machine. So under the circumstances I am satisfied with the purchase. It is as boring as watching paint dry, thank goodness for pvr.
  5. CJ I have not been on that road for about 5 years, but the dirt road at the traffic light just on the Stellenbosch side of the golf course used to take you to Zevenwacht.
  6. If you really want to know the causes and possible remedies do take some time and read the following articles: http://www.fagan.co.za/Bikes/Csuck/ http://www.gvtc.com/~ngear/chainsuck.html
  7. How would you rate SA's cities? Perhaps we should distinguish between commuting and training / social cycling.
  8. There is a precedent of such a trip. In search of Will Carling is a book by Charles Jacoby describing a Trans Africa trip in a landy (slower than a bike?) by a few Brits to reach Cape Town in time for the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
  9. Just an update. I bought a Cycleops Fluid from the new Cyclelab at Willie's old premises. Options was limited, CWC had no stock at all and I got the demo model.(and last item in stock) Will get on the trainer tonight, first off to the orthopedic surgeon to fit a cast for the hand.
  10. I broke my thumb and will not be able to ride for a few weeks. I am considering buying an IDT to keep the legs in shape. Please give me advice as to my options, models, price etc. I have both a MTB and a road bike. Thanks in advance.
  11. Was there earlier this year. 1Time flies there twice a week from OR Tambo. Stunning place, lots of blue sea, small tropical islands, friendly people and best of all, not expensive.Mr Legs2009-12-02 13:45:26
  12. Jaco Help us, please name a few brands. I am naturally well padded and do not seem to suffer as much as my skinny assed buddies. I don't like the First AScent, the padding feels too big and is also loose around the crotch(sp?). I also don't think I need to spend 1.5k on a pair of Assos, what other makes do you recommend and also where are they available and how much?
  13. My earlier post was incorrect, the incident happened on the Stellenbosch Malmesbury rd, between the fruit sellers four way stop and the silos.
  14. Just do the route twice on the day, problem solved.
  15. I used to work with him in the early nineties. Married with kids. Nice chap, friendly and enthusiastic about sport. Incident happened on Bottelary Rd. Really tragic. I will get more info later today. Argus reports that police will not release his name as all the family has not yet been informed.
