I also spend some time in Onrus during the holidays. This was yesterday morning in the Hemel and Aarde Valley

In the late 1990's one could take your vehicle down to The Hell during the race. I was support driver once and subsequently did the race a couple of times. It was the time when front suspension was still a novelty and many riders did the trip on rigid bikes. My one buddy just came back from the USA with a Cannondale lefty and the bike caused a sensation. One year I did not enter and also did no training, but the Friday morning my phone rang and I was invited to take the spot of a cyclist who withdrew. It was two very tough days.

Hemel and Aarde Valley

Hi Jackal, no this is not one the trails in the Hemel and Aarde Valley, it is on the "old" Hermanus MTB trail running roughly from Fernkloof to the eastern end of Hermanus, just above the houses and below the contour hiking path. The pic was taken right at the end of the trail (as I know it, maybe one can go further) just above the road to Stanford and about 1-2 km east of the residential area. The river runs down to the lagoon from the Vogelgat Nature Reserve.

@michaelbiker Another trip up the Onrus Gorge and then onwards with the Red Route up to Rotary Drive and the Mineshaft back into Hemel and Aarde Valley.

Oh, this little track around the hill is a challenge for an older cyclist, like me.

Cederberg ride: Starting at the low water bridge over the Olifants River, up the Nieuwoudt Pass, down to Algeria and then up the Uitkyk Pass to Sanddrif. A trip I have been wanting to do for the last 25 years.
